Setting goals can be easy, but it’s accomplishing them that seem to be difficult. A lot of people have hard time identifying which goals require personal effort and hard work, and which ones will come along when the time is right. If the two are confused, you’ll be stuck in a cycle of continued disappointment. Here are some examples of common goals that people hope to achieve, and steps to make it happen.
- Weight Loss This one is BIG for a lot of people. The first thing to achieving weight loss is accepting that your body is different from everyone else’s. Just because something works for someone else doesn’t mean it’s going to work for you, too. This is so important because you’ll start to get frustrated, angry, and feel defeated not seeing any progress. That’s where the next step comes in, TRY NEW THINGS. You never have to jump full force into one thing, so start with a few small things. Doing that can help you find what you like and what works, and the opposite. Lastly, find support! Join a program, get an accountability partner, follow an online forum, etc. There are so many ways to keep in contact with people who are experiencing the same things you are! Things are easier to achieve with the help and encouragement of others.
- Mental Health State of mind is important, so thank goodness this is a goal that a lot of people have! Mental health controls a lot more than we think. One of the best things you can do to get yourself to a better mental state is seeing a professional. A lot of people think that is a sign of weakness and believe they can solve their problems on their own. If you’ve been feeling down for a long time, it’s obvious that you can’t solve or cope with things in your life on your own, so you need to go. Coming to terms with the fact that you aren’t well and being vulnerable with someone truly exudes strength, not weakness. If you can’t get past the idea of seeing a professional, then start doing one thing that brings you happiness. Try writing down a good thing from your day, something you’re grateful for, or one thing you love about yourself. Tiny things like that can make a HUGE difference in how you feel about yourself, others, and in every day situations. Also keep in mind that you aren’t in control of other’s actions and lives. Stressing about someone else’s situation is a large cause of being mentally unwell, and it’s not worth adding another person’s burdens to your own.
- Quitting Giving up is often viewed as an easy way out, but in most cases of a goal, it’s actually the hardest. A lot of people struggle with smoking, alcoholism, drugs, porn, gambling, and many more unhealthy, harmful addictions. There are many ways to beat an addiction, but one thing that seems to be most common is weaning oneself from the problem. Quitting something ‘cold turkey’ can cause serious relapses, which isn’t good at all. Get the idea of waking up the next day and doing a whole 180 out of the mind, because in most cases, that doesn’t happen. Another great way is getting involved in a rehab center or a support group. Changes will start happening, and they’ll most likely be awful at first, but the end result is much better than the addiction. You’ll save money, your health, and relationships along the way.
The point is, everyone has things they want to change about themselves, and aspirations they want to make happen. Instead of taking time to find magical solutions and quick fixes, work towards the goals! So much more joy will come from putting in maximum personal effort, and new habits can be developed to benefit for a longer period of time. Always remember that there are an abundance of people with the same goals in mind, and there are multiple ways to find the support, inspiration, and encouragement along the way.
